Cruising The Caribbean

The islands of the Caribbean region are wonderful places to see, each with its own style and wonders to see, but all surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean, and all with plenty of sunshine shining down on them. Happy smiling people who enjoy life welcome you to islands filled with many and varied tastes, smells, and sounds.

Cruises to the Caribbean are very popular and to be honest it’s not surprising when you look at everything the area has to offer visitors. There are so many different islands here, and each one is different. Most cruises will opt to sail either around the eastern or western part of the Caribbean, and in both areas there is plenty to see. To the east are the British and American Virgin islands, St Lucia, Martinique, and Barbados, and in the west, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba and the Cayman islands.

Each stop you make you’ll get to experience something different, a taste if you like of the culture, cuisine, music, and vibrancy that each island has to offer. Excursions will let you see a little of each island you visit, and you may find yourself swimming with dolphins, exploring caves, climbing waterfalls, and shopping in spice markets.

Jamaica is probably best known for its spices, and it truly is an experience to visit this wonderful island. The food here is cooked with love and passion, and there is nothing better than to sit in the sun on one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet, and sip a rum cocktail and enjoy the slow pace of life here. For those who want something a little more fast paced, there’s plenty to do too. The Dunns river falls are an amazing sight to see from top or bottom, and if you want a little mystery, you could opt for a tour of the former home of Jamaica’s famous white witch Annie Palmer.

Martinique is a diverse island offering many opportunities to visitors. Here, you could visit Morne Rouge where you could see the famous MacIntosh Plantation where the anthurium is grown, or explore the banana and pineapple plantations, avocado groves and cane fields. Fort-de-France is the islands capital and a great place to explore on foot. If you do so, then make sure you see the Schoelcher Library, a Romanesque Byzantine style building built 100 years ago for the Paris Exposition and then dismantled and shipped here piece by piece.

The British Virgin Islands are a great place to stop, and Virgin Gorda which is the third largest and most populated of the British Virgin Islands is one of the most visited. Here you’ll find the Baths. This attraction is a unique rock formation of massive granite boulders and sea pools, and with the crystal clear blue waters, and tropical fish, this area is very popular with snorkelers.

There are of course many other islands that you might visit on your cruise here in the Caribbean, and many more exciting and different things you could choose to do. However, no matter where you stop, and what you choose to do, the experience to taste a little of all the Caribbean has to offer is well worth it.
